A server is not just a box - we believe it's a solution.

Anyone can sell a box - it's easy. You buy your components, you hire someone to put it together, you plug it into a network and then you can pass it off as a 'server'.

At DediCentral, we don't sell a box. We sell solutions built from high quality components, a choice of operating systems and control panels, and importantly, we support it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Server Information

Q: What dedicated server would you recommend?
A:
Recommending a server is a very hard thing to do - it depends on your requirements, what it's likely to be used for, your budget etc... Generally speaking, the more complex and interactive the site(s) you are looking the host, the more powerful and more expensive a server you will require. While we can't recommend a specific server or configuration, we'd be happy to offer some advice and suggest some possible solutions to you - please simply email sales@dedicentral.com and ask!

Q: Will my server be able to do X, Y or Z?
A:
As above, this is a very hard question to answer - it again depends entirely on what the server will be used for, and also, your knowledge and experience. If you are using your server to provide hosting services using the cPanel/WHM control panel, then our full management service covers the setup and configuration of standard software relating to the use of a server for this purpose.

Q: Can I upgrade my server?
A:
Yes, you can upgrade your server either when ordering or after your server is deployed. Common upgrades that are available are additional memory, a second hard drive, port speed upgrades, bandwidth upgrades and server management - these can all be ordered and added after your server is deployed. Please see our 'extras' page for more information.

Q: How much bandwidth do I get?
A:
Depending on which server you order, and when you ordered, your server may have a 1000gb, 1500gb or 2000gb monthly bandwidth allowance.

Q: Where can I see your terms of service and acceptable usage policies?
A:
These can be found in our legal section.

Q: What operating systems are available?
A:
We offer several operating systems. Linux distributions include CentOS Enterprise, Fedora, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Ubuntu. We can also offer FreeBSD and Open BSD; in addition to both Windows 2003 Server Standard and Web Edition. If you want your server deployed with one of the above operating systems or a 64-bit version, but it isn't available on our order form, please contact sales for assistance.

A:
We offer cPanel/WHM, Plesk and DirectAdmin control panels. On request, we can also offer Helm and Interworx - please contact us for information.

A:

Support Information

Q: What does self-managed mean?
A:
Self-managed servers are where we are responsible for only the network and hardware of your server. We will also ensure that your operating system is correctly installed when your server is deployed, and that you can connect to the server via SSH. All software and configuration issues relating to the operating system, control panel or other services/software on the server are your responsibility and DediCentral do not offer support for these with a 'self managed' server. See the next question if you need help with the software and configuration side of things.

Q: What happens if I need help wih my server? Do you offer a management service?
A:
Yes! We would be happy to offer our full server management service to you. Please see the 'extras' page for information on this service & pricing information.

Q: How do I reboot my server?
A:
All servers can be rebooted through our online 'reboot portal'. This allows you to send a request for a reboot directly to the datacentre staff and have a reboot carried out without opening a ticket. Remote reboot ports are currently being installed in our servers, these will be made available once all of our servers have the ports available and installed.

Ordering Information

Q: How long will it take for my server to be setup?
A:
For our standard servers, setup time is 24-72 hours after confirmed payment. Each of our servers is custom-built and configured for your order. Certain 'rapid deploy' servers may be pre-racked and pre-configured, setup times for these are on average 1-24 hours after confirmed payment.

Q: Do you need a copy of government issued ID? Do I need to sign any forms?
A:
In most cases, no. We perform extensive fraud checks using the information provided to us on our order form. If this information is accurate and there are no problems, your order will be processed swiftly. In certain cases, where there are problems or the order is a high-ticket item, we may request a copy of government issued ID - you will be contacted if this is the case.

Q: Do I need to sign anything to pay via Credit card?
A:
If you are paying us directly with a credit card, you will need to complete a credit card authorisation form and include a copy of government-issued photographic ID, including your name and address. You will be contacted once your order is placed with instructions on how to send us these items.
